My birthday is today. I turned thirty years old. I can't say that I'm happy. I don't have anything to show for thirty years of life.
I don't have a job. I don't have a degree. I don't have any friends. I don't have anything meaningful in my life. I'm a big waste.
To make matters worse, I tried to renew my license this morning. I found out that for the past two and a half years I have been driving on a suspended license for a speeding ticket that I got in March of 2006. I paid the ticket. I paid what I could at the time because I was working a retail job making $6.30 an hour. I paid what I could, unfortunately for me, their records are showing that I paid it off in May 2007. I know that I did not wait that long. I paid it off at the first part of February when I got my tax refund. I don't have any way to prove that, however. I closed the bank account that the checks were written from and SunTrust said that they cannot do any kind of research.
That's $140 to get it reinstated plus the fee to get a brand new license and I have no idea where I'm going to come up with that kind of cash right now.
So I really don't want anymore birthdays like this. I'm not sure if I want another birthday period.

You do have friends, you are not a waste, and I won't tell you what you do or don't have in your life, but hopefully you will remember a few meaningful things. Just remember that the day you realize all of your successes and accomplishments are behind you is the day there's no point left in going on. Case in point, I seem to plan on living forever by accomplishing absolutely nothing.
You're at a low point right now, but there will be high points. We get through things and go on.
All of that said... man, turning 30 SUCKS and you deserve to be mad about it for awhile. So I won't wish you a "Happy Birthday," but I do wish you a "Happy Couple-Weeks-After-Your-Birtday." I hope things look up soon.
Also, what is it with the freaking traffic court system? Mike had his license suspended for awhile because of failure to pay a ticket. It was a "fix-it" ticket, so he replaced his headlight & had an officer sign off on it, went down to the court, turned it in, all on time, everything. And then months later we find out they screwed something up, had it listed as unpaid, and he'd been driving on a suspended license. Fortunately we were able to get it resolved without too much pain. I can't believe your bank won't do any research, that's insane. Although I guess these days nothing the banks do surprises me.

I know. But if the high points (at least one good thing) could come right now, it would be appreciated.
Yeah. I feel so old. I know thirty isn't old in my head but I just feel so worn out.
I don't know but I know that I paid the rest as soon as I got my tax refund. I was working this so I did the e-files (and I usually had about 5 pay stubs). I know that I didn't wait a year to finish the payment. I've been driving for 2 and 1/2 years on a suspended license. I had no idea. They had my correct address but I had never received any warning except for the one in January. Had I known, I would have fixed it immediately and probably been able to show proof that I didn't wait until May.
I'm not surprised by anything the banks do either nor the cops. Ugh. We both could have gotten into some serious trouble if we'd ever been pulled over. :(
This one time I had gotten off at work at 12 am because for a few weeks in the summer, Home Depot closed later. My headlight was out. I thought it wasn't a big deal and just drove home. I'd have it fixed before I went into work the next day.
I get off the interstate just fine and I go down one street and I stop to turn onto my street. Well, a cop is there and he waves me over. He then pulls me over for having a busted headlight. I was less than half a mile from my house. He writes me a ticket. I'm too flabbergasted to say anything and he has a snotty attitude so I just don't say anything.
I go to my court date with a receipt showing I had it fixed the next morning along with a copy of my time card showing when I worked. I plead no contest. The judge, thankfully, tossed it out and I didn't have to pay anything or court costs.
I'm glad you got it resolved with too much fuss.
And thank you Sarah. :)
